moves Interactive Scenography LAB: October 2010, LJMU Marsh Campus, Aigburth, L17 6BD Liverpool
A three day workshop lead by Santi Vilanova (Telenoika) exploring the creation of theatre scenes through mixing new media with classical stage design.
The workshop is aimed at filmmakers, video art and interactive art enthusiasts, musicians, scenographers and creative engineers who are up for experimenting some days and unleashing their creativity. Resources used are based on audio, video, design, robotics, lighting and interactive technologies as well as scene design and the participants’ creativity.
The main goal is to realise some small-scale sketches which explore and bring this variety of disciplines together.
The main softwares that will be played with are Max/MSP/Jitter, though the use of any other multimedia programmes like Processing, Flash, Arduino, etc... is welcome and will be further explored.
Participants! Bring your “creative weapons”: musical instruments, notebook computers, microphones, scenographic elements, etc...
Day 1: Introduction to interactivity (Max, MSP and Algorithm design)
Analysis of selected artworks
-General audio concepts: amplitude, frequency, audio analysis -General computer vision concepts: tracking, background subtraction, infrared lighting -General augmented reality concepts: video mapping, sensors -General communication & control concepts: MIDI, OpenSoundControl, DMX -General electronics concepts: Arduino platform, serial communication -Algorithmics: introduction to software programming
Day 2: Sound Interactivity & Video Mapping
-Envelope following -Pitch tracking -Video triggering -MIDI / OSC communication -Video mapping: WarpMap
Day 3: Computer Vision
-Blob tracking -Motion detection -Optical flow -Background subtraction -Overview of infrared lighting techniques -MIDI / OSC communication
Day 4: Preparing a real practice
Final presentation of the works as part of moves Closing Night.
